  • 2014 ILA British Branch Spring Conference

    On 23 and 24 May 2014, The Dickson Poon School of Law played host to an impressive group of international lawyers, practitioners and researchers, gathered together to attend the International Law Association British Branch Spring Conference 2014.
  • 2016 ILA British Branch Spring Conference

    Non-State Actors and Changing Relations in International Law. BOOKING NOW OPEN. This conference will examine the changing role of non-state actors in international law and their impact on law-making, obligations, responsibility and dispute settlement.
  • Sir Nigel Rodley, died on January 25.

    He had been a longstanding Member of the ILA British Branch and served on both the recent ILA Committees on Human Rights Law. He attended the ILA2014/ASIL Conference in Washington DC. He was elected President of the ICJ in 2012, he was also a Council member of JUSTICE, the British Section of the International Commission of Jurists. He established and expanded the first human rights law department at Amnesty International in the 1970s & 1980s. He was also the United NationsÂ’ Special Rapporteur on Torture and served on the UN Human Rights Committee (of which he was Chair for a time). The University of Essex has invited tributes:

    The British Branch regrets to report the death on 8 February 2017 of Sir Eli Lauterpacht, aged 88, one of the best known academics and practitioners of international law for more than 60 years.
