On April 12 and 13, over 160 international lawyers gathered in Oxford for the Annual Conference of the ILA (British Branch). The theme of the conference was "The Changing Nature of Global Governance: International Institutions in the International Legal Order". The conference, organised by Dapo Akande and Antonios Tzanakopoulos with assistance from the Oxford Public International Law team, featured 12 different panels with speakers from all around the word addressing a wide range of topics in international law. Speakers included leading academics, legal counsel from international institutions, practitioners from private practice and research students. The keynote lecture, which also served as the inaugural Oxford Global Justice Lecture was delivered by Patricia O'Brien, United Nations Under-Secretary General for Legal Affairs and UN Legal Counsel.
Papers examined the role of international institutions in making, developing, interpreting, applying and enforcing international law.
