Cultural Heritage Law

The Cultural Heritage Law Committee has completed several studies and drafted the following major instruments: 1. The Buenos Aires Draft Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage, which served as the model for the UNESCO Convention of the same name, now in force; 2. The Principles for Cooperation in the Mutual Protection and Transfer of Cultural Material; and 3. The Guidelines for the Establishment and Conduct of Safe Havens for Cultural Material, including a Safe Haven Model Contract. The committee is currently working on a project to consider and compare national laws and their implementation regarding the export of cultural material.
