The theme of the Conference is ‘Security and International Law’. The Conference will consist of a mixture of plenary and parallel panels under the following sub-themes: Human security; nuclear security; maritime security and piracy; security in international humanitarian law and R2P; security and counter terrorism; economic security on land and sea; self-defence in international peace and security; the UN Security Council and the Arab Spring; and security of natural resources.

A pre-Conference workshop for MPhil/PhD students will be held during the afternoon of Thursday, 19 April 2012, from 14.00 – 18.00, preceded by lunch beginning at 13.30. The afternoon will begin with a short session on methodological issues and will be followed by a longer session in which MPhil/PhD students will be free to discuss their work. Attendance is free.
