3rd Annual International Conference: Law, Gender and Sexuality

Friday, 26 October 2018
08:45-18:30 (Registration from 08:15)

British Institute of International and Comparative Law, Charles Clore House,
17 Russell Square, London WC1B 5JP

The 3rd Annual International Conference of the Asian Yearbook on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, jointly organised by the British Institute for International and Comparative Law (BIICL) and Brill-Nijhoff publishers, will challenge the traditional perspectives and static representations of gender and sexuality in Asia, Middle East, and the West. Gathering high-profile speakers from around the globe, this international conference will explore the cultural, social, political, legal, and policy shifts which address gender and sexuality in these parts of the world. Topics will cover: same-sex marriage and citizenship; gender, sexuality and parenthood; sexual violence; and law and culture.

In addition, the conference will include a special plenary session to honour the memory of Asma Jahangir, the Pakistani human rights lawyer and social activist who co-founded the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan. Professor Javaid Rehman, who is succeeding her as United Nations Special Rapporteur for Human Rights in Iran, will also address the conference.

See the conference programme for speaker and session information.
