International Legal Roundtable ‘World Tour of Regional Tools for the UN SDGs’
We are delighted to share with you the invitation and programme for the International Legal Roundtable ‘World Tour of Regional Tools for the UN SDGs’, this coming Friday June 01, from 14h30-17h30 at McGill's Faculty Club, located at 3450 McTavish St, in Montreal, Quebec.
This special event is being hosted by CISDL and McGill University’s Journal of International Sustainable Development Law, under the auspices of the International Law Association and Canada’s new Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), together with the McGill Faculty of Law and the University of Montreal Law Faculty. We do hope that you will be able to participate.
The International Legal Roundtable analyses innovative legal instruments to achieve the global SDGs. The venue is set up with screen and speakers, which allows us to have online contributors. If you or members of your staff would like to join us online, for free, you can connect with our Secretariat Manager Morgane Larnder-Besner and her colleague Sophie Kassel, cc’d, to prepare to join in the day at 14h30 through Skype. You would also be welcome to signal your interest in speaking, and send a recorded intervention of 5-10 minutes.
The following focus questions will guide the International Legal Roundtable discussions, which will focus on new international law and governance developments in each region of the world that seek to realise the global SDGs, with leading experts in law and sustainable development helping to start the conversations in each instance:
What are the most promising regional advances in law and governance contributing to SDGs, and what more can be done? What are the most important challenges?
Which treaties and instruments can support the SDGs in the region?
What is the role of regional courts and tribunals?
Each brief opening presentation is 5-18 minutes, and a round-table discussion will follow. You are welcome to intervene on the topic of your choice. After the International Legal Roundtable, a legal working paper will be drafted featuring the conclusions, as a basis for a co-authored journal article which leads to a new book proposal for our Cambridge University Press Series.
