New Book: "The Unseen History of International Law: A Census Bibliography of Hugo Grotius’s De iure belli ac pacis"

On behalf of the Grotius Census Bibliography project team at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law, we are pleased to share the news of a publication that we believe will be of great interest to scholars and practitioners of international law in your association

"The Unseen History of International Law: A Census Bibliography of Hugo Grotius’s De iure belli ac pacis"

By analyzing hundreds of surviving copies from collections around the world, we seek to shed new light on how De iure belli ac pacis was read, circulated, annotated, and integrated into the intellectual life of early modern Europe and beyond. The book is the culmination of five years of research that not only enriches our understanding of Grotius’s legacy but also offers a new lens for studying the global history and modern practice of international law. You can find more information about the book here. As we approach its release, we would be grateful for your support in sharing news of this publication with your networks. In particular, we hope you might: Circulate the announcement via your society’s newsletter, mailing lists, or social media channels; Mention the book in the context of relevant panels, events, or symposia; Recommend it to scholars, students, and others with an interest in legal history, the history of international law, or the history of ideas.
