Round Table ‘Ukraine-NATO’: 20 Years of Charter on a Distinctive Partnership
On June 8, 2017 in Kiev, Ukraine, Ukrainian branch of the International Law Association in cooperation with the National Institute for Strategic Studies and Ukrainian Foreign Policy Association held a round table dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the signing of the NATO-Ukraine Charter on a Distinctive Partnership.
Chairman of the Ukrainian branch of the Association of International Law Alexander Kupchyshyn stressed that the Charter on a Distinctive Partnership today is a classic full international treaty that contains legal obligations of the parties.
All participants of the round table - government officials who were involved in preparing and signing this document, the Ukrainian diplomats and NGO experts noted its practical importance in the development of relations between Ukraine and NATO powers in the security field.
Forum's participants stated that the Charter will continue to be the basis for an effective relationship with Ukraine and Alliance in wide range of fields and formats (peacekeeping efforts, reforms of defense and security sector, strengthening civil democratic control in this area and etc ).
