Sir Nigel Rodley, died on January 25

Sir Nigel Rodley, died on January 25.

He had been a longstanding Member of the ILA British Branch and served on both the recent ILA Committees on Human Rights Law.  He attended the ILA2014/ASIL Conference in Washington DC.

He was elected President of the ICJ in 2012, he was also a Council member of JUSTICE, the British Section of the International Commission of Jurists. He established and expanded the first human rights law department at Amnesty International in the 1970s & 1980s.  He was also the United Nations’ Special Rapporteur on Torture and served on the UN Human Rights Committee (of which he was  Chair for a time).
