The Mexican Branch of the International Law Association participated in the presentation of three numbers of the International Review of the Red Cross

Mexico City, Mexico.- Invited by the Office of the Legal Advisor on Public International Law of the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Regional Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross , Mr. Joel Hernandez, President of the Mexican Branch of the International Law Association (ILA), presented the article “Permitted for law enforcement purposes but prohibited in the conduct of hostilities: The case of riot control agents and expanding bullets” (Samuel Longuet, Université Libre de Bruxelles), included in the number 901 of the International Review of the Red Cross, “War in cities.”

Mr. Alejandro Alday, Legal Consultant on Public International Law and member of the ILA, presented the article “Reconciling the rules of International Humanitarian Law with the rules of European Human Rights Law” (Claire Landais and Léa Bass, French Ministry of Defence) from number 900, “The evolution of warfare,” and Mrs. Abigail Díaz de León, professor from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) commented “The duty to rescue at sea, in peacetime and in war: A general overview” (Irini Papanicolopulu, University of Milano-Bicocca) from number 902, “War and security at sea.”

The presentation brought together three institutions sharing the common objective of promoting and disseminating International Law among national authorities, scholars and anyone interested on the subject.

This was the first public event of Mr. Hernandez as President of the Mexican Branch of the ILA since his recent election.
